McMinnville, TN – Warren County High School (WCHS) has announced that Matt Turner will not continue as head coach of the Pioneer football team, a decision met with both sadness and optimism for the program’s future. Turner, who has led the team since 2019, achieved notable successes, including the Pioneers’ first winning season in years and mentoring Warren County’s first-ever Mr. Football, CJ Taylor.
In a press release, WCHS Executive Principal Chris Hobbs expressed gratitude for Turner’s dedication. “I want to personally thank Coach Turner for his dedication, integrity, and the countless hours he has devoted to our school and our students. No one has ever doubted any
of those things. In our meetings to evaluate the state of Pioneer football, we felt we needed a ‘reboot’ and thus this decision became necessary,” Hobbs said.
Director of Schools Dr. Grant Swallows added, “I want to thank Coach Matt Turner for his time as the head coach of our football program. He
has been invaluable for many years and is a Pioneer to his core. His commitment and the investment into the lives of our student-athletes is second to none,” The search for a new coach will begin immediately, with plans already underway to strengthen the team, including a more competitive non-region schedule for 2025 and 2026.
Dr. Swallows will discuss the coaching change in detail on WBMC radio’s Town Talk, November 19th at 8:00 a.m.
