Traffic was backed up on I-24 near mile marker 112 for several hours on Saturday morning after a multi-vehicle accident.
Traffic was rerouted through the City Manchester while first responders worked the scene.
Two people were injured after a multi-vehicle crash in Coffee County on Saturday morning, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP).
According to the THP, a semi-truck was driving in the right lane on I-24 when traffic came to a near stop.
To avoid hitting the Dodge Ram in front of him, the driver of the semi, 36-year-old Fidel Nzitonda, swerved onto the shoulder to avoid hitting the Dodge, however, the report says the semi still contacted the back of the truck’s trailer.
The THP said 18-wheeler then cut back into the right lane in front of the pickup truck and hit the back of a Chevrolet Express cargo van.
The van veered off the right side of the roadway into a tree line striking a tree.
THP said the semi crossed both lanes into the median and rolled over onto the driver’s side before finally resting in the median.
THP said two of the three drivers were injured because of the crash and transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
