Murfreesboro, TN – Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) is mourning the loss of a student who passed away by suicide on Monday afternoon at the James E. Walker Library. In response to the tragedy, the university has closed campus today to allow students, faculty, and staff time to grieve and support one another. Only essential services for public safety and on-campus residents will continue to operate. The campus is set to reopen on Wednesday, though the library will remain closed until further notice.
University President Sidney A. McPhee extended condolences to the Blue Raider community, reaffirming MTSU’s commitment to offering support during this challenging time. In a heartfelt message on Facebook, he encouraged students and staff to lean on each other and the university’s resources for assistance in coping with the loss.
