At the City Board meeting Tuesday night City Administrator Nolan Ming made the announcement that Captain Nichole Mosley of the McMinnville Police Department has been named the new police chief. It will take effect January 1,2021. Mosley becomes the first female police chief in the department’s almost 90 year history. She joins Eve Thomas in Knoxville as a growing number of police chiefs in the state.
Mosley was one of three finalists to interview on Monday. The other two were from Murfreesboro and Manchester. Mosley told our news department that it hasn’t sunk in yet but is very excited about the job and making history. She said that the city already has a great department but one of her first jobs is getting new personnel hired. She said she prides on being professional and will continue to work close with the community. Mosley said in almost 24 hours she’s received overwhelming support from family and friends and within the community. She concluded that she will have an open door policy and will answer any questions or concerns with the citizens of McMinnville.
Mosley is a life long resident of Warren Co. and has worked with the department for over 25 years attaining the rank of captain. During her tenure she has been involved and instrumental in the department becoming a State Accredited Agency. She has in her career tried to prepare herself for the position of police chief. She has attended many leaderships and command schools, including the FBI National Academy in Quantico, which is the premier law enforcement college in the country.
Chief Bryan Denton, who announced his retirement on September 22, said Moseley is well educated and trained and could not imagine a better choice. On Moseley becoming the first female chief he said she will make it successful and the department won’t miss a beat. Denton’s last day is December 31 and told us he’s forward to retirement and becoming a grandpa and has several plans in the works, including helping the community by doing volunteer work.
